Als Antwort auf Tom Baker. Just closing our eyes does not change anything and the hunts are not going to stop if we don't watch very closely. Very recently a mere 1'200 dolphin were killed in a bay putting ALL my thoughts in this blog post into a whole different perspective. How are you ever going to take the emotion out of a happening like this? Why do Faroese people who live so close to nature wipe out a mega pod of marine mammals? Tradition? I don't think so. Does looking away help? I don't think so either.

Why is it that some people are always trying to control other people? If you don’t like whaling then don’t take part in it. If the dolphin hunts horrify you they then don’t watch them. It’s really simple when you take the emotion out of it.

Yeah, the whales are probably thinking and communicating (as the intelligent and excellent communicators they are):

– Don´t be afraid. They will kill us swiftly and painlessly…

This is inhumane. Period.

The horrible thing is that the whales are terrified and stressed out during a long time before they are killed, probably hearing friends and relatives cry out about the killing before its their turn.

We have stopped executing people publicly in the middle of squares (mostly), why not do the same with this?

Gut geschrieben….trotzdem eine sinnlose Tradition! Vielleicht wäre eine Reduktion des Fleisch- und Fischkonsums sinnvoller als jährlich hunderte Grindwale zu schlachten. Aber das ist nur meine persönliche Meinung.

Als Antwort auf Kristin Hanes. I don't think the outrage is unjustified. In the end it's slaughter of animals. People will and have always reacted very emotional on that topic. You are pointing out a very important idea that I also have been thinking about a lot. Only eat meat and fish when I can kill it myself. I think for most of the meat I would think twice.

Als Antwort auf Kajetan. Ja, das ist ein guter Input. In der Schweiz haben wir das Privileg, dass wir uns praktisch uneingeschränkt aussuchen können wo unsere Lebensmittel herkommen. Hier in Mexiko ist das einiges schwieriger.

Thanks for writing this interesting blog post! I totally agree that humans are no longer used to the sight of blood and slaughter. Outrage at what happens in the Faroe Islands is probably unjustified. Instead, people should be outraged by what happens in slaughterhouses and the industrialized meat industry every single day. The suffering of millions (billions) of animals and the horrible impact on our environment. Imagine if we had to kill our own chickens, cows and pigs. I bet we would eat far less meat! It is hard to kill an animal, even a fish. Thinking about the impact of meat and fish consumption on the environment has led us to be 95% vegetarian for the past year. Killing our own fish feels like the most sustainable way to eat an animal. I bet if everyone cut down just a little bit on industrialized meat and fish consumption, it would reap great benefits for our planet.
